The Business of Art Observed

Wednesday, April 24th, 2019

AWAD is excited to be partnering with Business of Art for their upcoming event The Business of Art Observed on Tuesday, May 21st 2019 at The Roosevelt Hotel 7:30 AM – 12:00 PM.

Art is a 50 billion dollar industry and is becoming more of an innovative business than ever before. This inaugural event will bring together art market professionals to discuss key business issues, trends and technology disruption facing the industry on both a national and global scale.

Analyzing and understanding how the art world is being disrupted and the impact this is having on business models is key in today’s climate.  The art world’s unique set of challenges: the birth of a global arts market, the use of social media, preferences towards digital galleries and the growth of international art fairs, as well as struggles with regulations in an evolving industry, needs to be addressed in an open and interactive platform. The Business of Art Observed will provide an opportunity for all art professionals to discuss, debate and exchange ideas to help the industry fulfill their ambitions.

Observer will bring together leading figures from the art world to share their experiences ensuring the art community can build better businesses in 2019, including:

  • Disruption in the Art World – How the Rules are Changing and the Impact on Art Businesses Nationally and Globally
  • Regulating the Art Market
  • The Art Market 2.0: Using Art & Technology Solutions to Drive the Industry Forward
  • Insurance & Risk Management

WINDY WEATHER WARNING : The Time to Act is Now

Wednesday, November 28th, 2018

As the windows start rattling in the wind and a tumbleweed of litter rushes down the street it’s clear we’re heading into winter storm season. Just as our cousins in the southern States have watched Hurricane season since May, in the UK, Europe and North America we will have one eye on the weather forecast for the next five months, wondering whether we’ll get snowed in, cut off, flooded or lose windows in the gales.

Although winter storms rarely cause significant risk to life, the frequency of low-level damage and interruption to services is high, and businesses can be crippled for days or even weeks after a severe storm.

Gallery owners may have cause for concern;

Volta 14 Art Fair Tour through Kristen Knupp’s Eyes

Wednesday, October 17th, 2018

I traveled to Basel in June 2018, taking the train from Geneva and arriving at the Volta 14 Art Fair just in time to meet AWAD’s Susan Mumford, along with Volta’s David Goodman and Brian Fee along with our tour group.  A collaboration between Art Decision Magazine, AWAD and Volta, we met in the entrance of Volta’s new venue, a light-filled, spacious former industrial building housing about 75 international galleries.  The tours’ focus, fittingly given AWAD’s involvement, was to focus on showing our group women-owned galleries and women artists. We saw six galleries in total, the highlights of which are detailed below.
