Charting New Horizons: an interview with Katrine Levin, Founder of Katrine Levin Galleries

Wednesday, July 17th, 2019

Katrine Levin Galleries was launched in 2017, as a destination to discover extraordinary contemporary artists from places less explored. The idea was inspired by a trip to her step-father’s hometown in Kunming, the capital of China’s frontier Yunnan Province, where she was stunned by the calibre of art, depth of knowledge and experimentation. Katrine commits long-term to a small selection of masters of diverse styles, curating solo exhibitions for each. She immerses herself into the artists’ cultures, intimate stories, and places that inspired and informed their art to engage the viewers in a new perspective and to share a unique experience, insight and an intimate connection to each artist.

Prior to establishing the gallery, Katrine practised Intellectual Property (IP) law in New York City and London for 15 years and attained an MLitt in History of Art from Renaissance to Modernism from Christie’s Education London. www.katrinelevin.com/

Dedicated to foregrounding the cultural context of such diverse works, Katrine Levin Galleries represents a range of dynamic practitioners who currently live and practice in their home country. The current focus is on Southwest China and Georgia.

Services offered include commissions by represented artists and consulting work

The gallery stages pop-up exhibitions in central London and Manhattan and has a strong online presence.

1. Describe your business in 5 words:

It’s really important as an entrepreneur to find your values that will guide your employees, customers, and all that you are doing. For us, the first word is communication, as we feel it’s really important to have transparency with the artist, employees, and clients, and we find everything works so much better when things are clearer. Number two would be engagement: the way we engage with everyone we work alongside is through commitment. For example, we only want those who are passionate about art to work for us. The third one would be enthusiasm because we want to have fun at work! We work super hard but also have a lot of fun. Most clients who come to buy a piece, it isn’t a chore for them, so we try to keep everything light, in a way. The last one would be rigour. You know, some people think the art world is flaky but it’s a really serious business! I know these concepts can sound quite contradictory, but for us, they really forge the identity of the gallery.

Quintessence by Eric Robitaille at Decorazon

Monday, July 8th, 2019

Quintessence is referred to as the fifth sense, and is the title of Eric Robitaille’s exhibition at DECORAZON NYC.  Celebrating the idea of beauty in its purest form, Robitaille demonstrates a unique combination of vibrant realism and modern abstract.

ERIC ROBITAILLE demonstrates a unique combination of vibrant realism and modern abstract. Building each painting using a very complex construction of high quality detailing and layers, the artist allows a large space for abstract process and flow. Eric Robitaille is a self-taught contemporary artist from Montreal, Quebec. He has shown works in several exhibitions across Canada, and is currently represented by galleries in Quebec and Ontario. He also enjoys meeting art buyers personally through independent fairs.

A contemporary artist from Montreal, Quebec, Eric Robitaille has a graphic design and illustration background.
Diverse animal and plant life play a large role in his recent series, primarily to symbolize human behavior and life mechanics. His animal subjects display human characteristics and virtues, while carrying messages of “being your best self”.

Through many years of experimentation, Eric Robitaille’s style has evolved from hyper-realism to a unique mixture of abstraction and surrealism. The distinctive integration of contrasting elements, graphic text, colours and layers result in creations that are visually intriguing and dynamic, but above all communicate to perfection the story and significance of each piece.

Exhibition on View: June 27 – August 24, 2019
