As part of her newest venture, the Be Smart About Art Academy, AWAD’s founder Susan Mumford is hosting a panel discussion on ‘Pop Up Shows, Best Practices & Avoiding Pitfalls‘. In Susan’s own words, ‘Who is not aware of the recent(ish) phenomenon, the pop-up? That is, pop-up art exhibitions, restaurants, jewellery shops… You name it, it probably also takes place in a pop-up format. “Pop-up” was even said to have been the most overused word in the art world in 2011. So, how do these pop-ups work, anyway? Surely, pop-ups in existing galleries charge for space hire, but what about empty shops? What about listing a non-official venue in marketing listings? What are the creative considerations? And, what about insurance and legalities?’ Click here to learn more about the Be Smart About Art Academy.

An expert panel discussion ‘Pop Up Shows – How to make them a success & avoiding pitfalls’, will feature several speakers, including experienced gallerists and pop up exhibitors, presenting their experience and advice on best practices from creative considerations, marketing and PR to logistics, insurance and legal issues. Susan will moderate a panel including:

Isobel Beauchamp –

Will Lunn –

Sylvie Gormezano – Picture This Productions

AWAD held its last Quarterly Social of 2011 on Monday 12th December at The Delicate Mayhem Gallery , currently at 3 Russell Street, Covent Garden, in collaboration with AWAD’s preferred partner for fine wines. To conclude a year that has seen AWAD’s membership double, we were honoured to have as guest speaker Pia Sharma, of PSharma Consulting, an expert in Cultural Intelligence (more information below).

Susan Johnson Mumford, AWAD’s founder welcomed AWAD members among which MK Semos, Kristen Knupp, Stephanie Braun, Francesca Fiumano, Sylvie Gormezano and Chiko Nara, as well as guests and partners.

The Delicate Mayhem‘s director Eleanor Jordan and her team kindly hosted the event during their group exhibition that included works by Laura Jordan as well as Kaya Mar whose satirical portraits of politicians from around Europe seemed particularly topical.

Wine Chap is a unique resource that offers online wine list reviews, tastings and events as well as a concierge service for eno-tourism and wine portfolio consultancy. An inaugural event at what is now the Modern Masters gallery on Cork Street, where displaying artists and visiting winemakers alternately presented their works, established a pattern. WineChap is delighted to have collaborated over the years with a number of galleries, dealers, artists and designers including Mumford Fine Art, David Linley, The HayHill Gallery, Sokol Fine Art, Trufe, GrandyArt, Tim Flach and Fiumano Fine Art supplying fine wines tailored for specifc launches but also creating bespoke multi-sensory events. To read more about Tom Harrow, founder of WineChap, click here.

Pia Sharma, of PSharma Consulting as guest speaker.
