Invocation at ODETTA Gallery

Friday, May 12th, 2017

Odetta Gallery is pleased to present Invocation. The artists,  Loren Eiferman, Camille Eskell, Charles Geiger, focus on healing, either a specific person, or thing when engaged in the act of making their works of art. The magical qualities inherent in their spirited requests can be seen in the finished work. Through the power of imagination and intense concentration, their objects make our humanity visible and vulnerable.

In conjunction with the exhibition Invocation at ODETTA, the gallery has curated their Flat Files for Creative Tech Week 2017. Jeff Becker, Joshie Fishbein, Greg Garvey (Cabinet of Wonders, Persistence and the Fugitive, animation still, 2017 pictured) Toni Simon, and Susan Stair have produced works that address geological time, persistence of nature, communication among trees and humans, and the fragility of our planet through ceramic installation, poetry, and video works.

Invocation is the gallery’s 24th exhibition. There will be an opening reception for the artists on Friday May 12, 2017 from 6 – 8:00 pm and the public is invited. A concert event will be held in celebration of Creative Tech Week on Friday May 19 from 7-9 pm and there will be an Artists Talk on Sunday June 11 at 3:00 pm. The show runs from May 12 – June 18, 2017

Maestro Arts presents George Nama’s ‘Poetic Images’ (16 Apr-24 Jun)

Tuesday, April 14th, 2015

Maestro Arts presents George Nama’s ‘Poetic Images’ an exhibition at their Wandsworth gallery space from 16th April to 24th June. For more information, contact Maestro Arts.

American artist George Nama makes books and paints in books.  In this, his first exhibition in the UK, he has collaborated with poet and pianist Alfred Brendel and with the 13th American Poet Laureate, Charles Simić, to produce limited edition portfolios of poems with original artworks.  Each is a boxed, handmade collection of limited edition etchings on Arches Vellum paper, prints are signed by Nama, with each volume being signed by the author; typically thirty-two are produced.

In preparing for a portfolio, Nama produces a series of original artworks, responding to the poems through drawings and gouaches.  His works, like poetry, send thoughts in unexpected directions, connecting remote layers and associations.  The resulting artworks, reflect the diversity of these two great poets; Charles Simić and Alfred Brendel.
