Slow Art at Village West Gallery

Friday, November 1st, 2019
Village West Gallery is pleased to present Slow Art – Thoughtful art that rewards a long look.
Today’s mode of thinking around visual imagery is closely tied to social media, advertising and instant gratification. We are conditioned to scroll, swipe and digest imagery in a flash and then move on to the next.  Slow Art is an exhibition dedicated to works that intentionally slows down the senses and creates a space for contemplation. 20 local, regional and national artists with a wide range of styles and methods of expression have been selected by co-curators Diana Schmertz and Robinson Holloway. Featured Artists include –
David Baskin, Jimbo Blachly, Sharela Bonfield, Alexandra Brock, Patricia Cazorla & Nancy Saleme, Pam Cooper, Alexis Duque, Cathy
Ellis, Peter Gynd, Jeanne Heifetz,Gosha Karpowicz, Anki King, Megan Klim, Ezra Mara, Vikki Michalios, Joshua Mintz, David Rios Ferreira, Gail Rothschild and Rachael Wren.
The exhibit is ongoing through December 6, 2019

Ground Floor Gallery Turns 5 years old and they are celebrating!

Saturday, May 12th, 2018

This spring, Ground Floor Gallery turns 5 years old! To commemorate the occasion, they will be presenting an anniversary show in five parts: a sequence of solo exhibitions between May and August 2018, featuring five artists they’ve shown in past group exhibitions. FYI: The Gallery will be offering a surprise collector’s item at each opening reception. Stay tuned!

The first iteration is artist Peter Gynd’s Blanketed: Textiles, Culture and the Landscape. Recent paintings and photographs. This is the first New York solo exhibition of the artist’s work. Known for his paintings and photographs featuring blanket-cloaked figures staged against patterned backgrounds, landscapes, or interior scenes, Gynd’s work stems from an exploration of the relationships between textiles, regional cultures and landscape.
Opening Reception: Friday, May 18th, 6-8:30pm. The exhibition is runs May 18th – June 3rd
