Joshua Goode’s ‘Rhoman Ruins’ opening at Ivy Brown Gallery

Sunday, September 1st, 2019

Ivy Brown Gallery invites you to explore the mystery and intrigue behind Joshua Goode’s ‘Rhoman Ruins’ opening Tuesday, September 10, 6-8pm.

Few know that the origins of the Bermuda Triangle myth began in New York City on a triangular piece of land that eventually became the foundation of the Triangle Building in the Meatpacking District.

Mystery and intrigue has long surrounded the Triangle Building, but the truly fantastical stories pre-date the building by thousands of years to the time of the ancient Aurora-Rhomans. Joshua Goode is currently excavating the ruins of a pre-historic zoo deep below the foundations of the Triangle Building that held creatures believed to live solely in the imagination. Majestic bronze sculptures of these mythical creatures and ornate altarpieces were left as prayer offerings which also included ritual human sacrifice.  (more…)

Transcendence – Elizabeth Gregory-Gruen at Ivy Brown Gallery

Monday, September 24th, 2018

Ivy Brown Gallery is pleased to present Transcendence – Elizabeth Gregory-Gruen. The artist’s cutwork series is an evolving examination of emotion experienced through the inspired meeting of blade and paper. Beginning with the featureless plane of a blank paper canvas and a surgeon’s scalpel, Gregory-Gruen finds direction spontaneously, or as she says, “I cut from the gut.”

Though seemingly perfect and symmetrical at first glance, the original images are cut with no guide, defined by the authentic energy of the free hand cutting. The reverse-relief effect is achieved by first cutting what will become the top layer of paper, with each subsequent sheet layered and cut individually. About her process, Gregory-Gruen says, “It is visceral. A meditation. Imperfection is perfection.”

Artist’s talk on September 25th 6 – 8 with Elizabeth Gregory-Gruen and Gary Gary Lichtenstein,

Exhibition on View through October 17th
