Young Olympians

The concentrated gaze of the athletes signifies that moment of mental preparation which immediately precedes action. The pose is self-conscious and evokes the awkwardness and vulnerability but also the raw intensity and strength of conviction of youth. Beyond the world of athletics, with its inherent political and ethical conflicts, we can discern from the athletes’ faces the journey from innocence to experience.
