Village West Gallery hosts Stories from the Sea

Friday, August 30th, 2019
Village West Gallery is proud to host Stories from the Sea, the 2019 Teacher as Artist group show. Opening reception is on Wednesday September 4th 6 – 9pm; the show closes with a brunch reception on Sunday September 29th 1 – 4pm.

Drawing inspiration from the sea, a group of Jersey City Public School Art Teachers examine personal narratives, visual symbols and painting/ mixed media techniques through a series of professional development workshops lead by artist and former teacher Allison Green.
Through a combination of on site visits to the ocean and in-studio painting sessions, these teachers have reclaimed their identity as artists and together celebrate the symbols, stories and inspirational imagery of the sea in their work.
The Jersey City Public Schools power goal is for all educators to prepare students for college and career readiness. The Art Educators in this program demonstrate for students and the community at large the intrinsic value of the arts in achieving power goals.
The Teacher As Artist annual exhibition was established in 1993.
