Joseph Cavalieri’s ‘New York Under Glass’ at the Ivy Brown Gallery

Wednesday, November 30th, 2016

Ivy Brown Gallery is proud to announce  New York Under Glass, a solo exhibition of East Village artist Joseph Cavalieri. The fifteen new works on display have the  theme of expressing New York City landmarks in atypical settings. Personalities seen in the art include San Gennaro, Jackie O, Helen Hayes (above), and a young Ulysses S. Grant. Buildings depicted in the works include the Flat Iron building and the Dakota. Cavalieri places these images in unexpected, curious settings. He describes the pieces as “collages in glass.”

In his work, Cavalieri updates techniques and the storytelling tradition created by medieval stained glass artisans. Each of his works incorporates a detailed narrative, often with humor. Cavalieri’s aim is to merge contemporary imagery with the time-honored processes of painted stained glass, a material with a powerful spiritual history.

Exhibition Dates: Tuesday, December 6th, 2016-December 31st
Silk Screening on Glass Demo: December 10th, 2016 1pm-3pm

IvyAWAD, the Association of Women Art Dealers, is pleased to announce a new Founding Member for our NYC Chapter, Ivy Brown.

Ivy Brown has lived her life as a pioneer in the very city where she was born. In 1985, when others dared not set foot in the Meatpacking District, she bought a fourth floor flat in the Triangle Building and transformed it into a haven of tranquility and artistic expression. In 2001, she founded the Ivy Brown Gallery which she still runs and is shown above in an image courtesy of Ivy Brown.
