Syncopation at ODETTA Gallery

Sunday, April 28th, 2019

ODETTA is pleased to share Syncopation – Emily Berger and Bob Seng. Chance, improvisation within the tight constraints of a limited color palette, and their monastic approach to their chosen materials brings these two artists together in their first two-person exhibition.

Emily Berger’s paintings are based on a structure of repetitive and deliberate gesture that is intuitive but carefully considered. She brushes, wipes, rubs, and scrapes, incorporating the color, texture, and pattern of the wood supports, concealing and revealing underlying layers in various states of transparency and solidity. Working with, and against, whatever happens as she paints, from edge to edge exposes areas of the surface to create shapes. VanDeb Editions presents – Summer Selects

Monday, June 4th, 2018

Each summer VanDeb Editions chooses prints from among the artists that they have worked with for their Summer Selects show. Each artist worked with Master printer Marjorie VanDyke to create either etchings, aquatints or monotypes at the VanDeb Studio. The show is up from June 5 – August 31st.

DEBORAH FREEDMAN & MARJORIE VAN DYKE  began their association at Robert Blackburn’s Printmaking Workshop in 1988 – sharing a passion for etching and monotype. In 1999 they founded VanDeb Editions – collaborating with artists to explore the process of making prints while expanding their aesthetic vocabulary. It has been a joy for them to work with the 43 people who have produced prints of originality and superlative production values.
