Joanna Bryant Projects presents September Solos in Clerkenwell

Friday, September 9th, 2016

Joanna Bryant Projects presents September Solos, two consecutive exhibitions in Clerkenwell showcasing artists Alan Franklin (14-18 September) and Chris Sims (21-25 September). For more information, contact Joanna Bryant.

See Saw – Alan Franklin (14-18 September)

Private View, Tuesday 13 September 6pm – 8.30pm

A playful and inventive exploration of materials and processes seeking the unfamiliar in the familiar. Franklin refers to his drawings as flat sculptures putting the focus on their materiality and the processes by which they are made. Equally in this exhibition his sculptures might be seen as three dimensional drawings. Ideas and thoughts that crisscross in a conversation with each other.

Curated by Joanna Bryant

Julian Page will also be showing works by Marcelle Hanselaar in the downstairs gallery.

Chris Sims (21-25 September)
Private View, Tuesday 20 September 6pm – 8.30pm

A solo show of new work by the contemporary English abstract painter, Chris Sims. Sims uses colour and instinctive mark making to evoke or capture a moment in time in the rural English landscape. He has a growing collector’s market in the UK and his paintings are often considered to be reminiscent of the St Ives painter Peter Lanyon.

Curated by Joanna Bryant

Julian Page will also be showing works by Alexander Massouras in the upstairs gallery.

Joanna Bryant Projects presents ‘Digging Deeper’ a new exhibition in Clerkenwell (3-8/Nov)

Wednesday, October 28th, 2015

Joanna Bryant Projects presents ‘Digging Deeper’ a new exhibition in Clerkenwell (3-8/Nov) part of her ongoing curatorial practice in collaboration with Julian Page. ‘Digging Deeper’ features work by Peter Doig, Stephen Gill, Katja Larsson and Ruth Solomons, whose work Moraine is shown here courtesy of Joanna Bryant.

‘Digging Deeper’ offers an alternative showing of works by Stephen Gill and Peter Doig in the context of a select group show. The show attempts to provide new insights into both artists, by contextualising their work with that of two emerging artists. Curators Julian Page and Joanna Bryant seek to offer an alternative and thoughtful approach to Gill’s photographs, whose practice, established over a number of years in Hackney, East London, continues to surprise.  By placing these works alongside prints by Peter Doig, with their haunting and mysterious evocation of place, sculptures by Katja Larsson and painting constructions by Ruth Solomons, whose practices are both dependent on the experimental,Digging Deeper not only references links in the intent and the processes between these four artists, it also attempts to offer deeper insights into the seemingly familiar.

Stephen Gill will be in attendance at the gallery for a book signing, Wednesday November 4th, 4-6pm

A new fundraising print by Stephen Gill, from his series Talking to Ants, is for sale during the show.100% of the proceeds will go directly to help people in great need & will be donated to the Red Cross Europe Refugee Crisis appeal.

Julian Page and Joanna Bryant are independent art curators and dealers, supporting emerging and established contemporary artists and working together to hold exhibitions that reveal surprising dialogues through the process of collaboration.

Private View, Tuesday 3 November (6-8.30pm)

Exhibition, Wednesday 4 – Saturday 7 November (11am-6pm)

Finissage Brunch, Sunday 8 November (10am – 1pm)
