‘Concealed Spaces: New Works by Tina Buchholtz’ at Karin Weber Gallery, Hong Kong

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2015

Karin Weber Gallery is excited to kick off the Christmas season with ‘Concealed Spaces: New Works by Tina Buchholtz’, a German artist whose subject matter is contemporary society, its stresses, and its coping mechanisms. Buchholtz brings to the canvas tremendous depth, color and texture and suggests a world in constant motion. This chaos, however, is met in equal measure with what the artist refers to as ‘hiding places,’ or refuges for renewal.

“We are in a constant state of advance and retreat,” says Buchholtz. “Exploration is in our nature, and we are firmly focused on the future. And yet, this state of being requires a counter balance; a place to withdraw, rest and begin anew. Balancing extremes is the ultimate challenge for humankind in a contemporary world.” Concealed Spaces offers visualizations of Buchholtz’s own retreats and personal inner sanctums, including the work shown here ‘Liberation’, courtesy of Karin Weber Gallery.

Prismatic by Lars Rylander at Lisa Norris Gallery (4/Jun-4/Jul)

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2015

Lisa Norris Gallery is pleased to present PRISMATIC the first solo exhibition in London of Swedish painter, Lars Rylander.

About the artist

A couple of canvases lying on the floor in the studio.  In no particular order and without any specific up or down.  So that I can walk around them. Unpainted, quite white and precisely cut from the roll of canvas. I walk around and paint on them with long brushes in. In the beginning quite unplanned, a little here and a little there. Mixing new colours and continuing  while the paintings are emerging. I pick up one of them  and nail it to the wall. Concentrating  on that particular canvas. Slowly approaching what I want to express. Eventually, they are both on the wall. Finished!

Nicola Staglich – Light Space at the Lisa Norris Gallery (12-Mar/18-Apr)

Wednesday, March 11th, 2015

Light Space, a solo exhibition by German artist Nicola Stäglich opens at the Lisa Norris Gallery in Fulham on 12th March and runs until 18th April.

About Nicola Stäglich

Stäglich’s abstract works are based on her examination of colour painting as well as her interest in the expansion of the pictorial space into the real space.

In her paintings colour is poured, sprayed and painted with brushes on the surface in very thin washes. Her process resembles that of erosion and modification in nature. Transparent layers of colour open up the image space within the frame. Geometric forms like circles, ellipses and triangles lay out the possibility for colour and the appearance of light. Together with the veils of colours they build a delicate composition that hovers between solidity and dissolution.
