ODETTA is pleased to present Bluebird of Happiness

Thursday, July 25th, 2019

ODETTA happily announces their first Summer Exhibition, Bluebird of Happiness,  in their new space at 1st Dibs Gallery.  The exhibition features artists Daniel Hill, Paula Overbay, and Andra Samelson. The Flat File Feature Artist is Angie Drakopoulos. The exhibition opens on July 30th and closes August 31, 2019. There will be a meet the artists event on August 3rd, 3-5.
A harbinger of good luck, the bluebird signals to the viewer that joy is forthcoming. For the artists of Bluebird of Happiness, each coming to blue in their own way, the audience’s joy is actualized in their paintings through saturated blues, an impossibly light touch, and a flair for the psychedelic. Their meditative fields invite us to move slowly, think less, and let our eyes dance.

Quintessence by Eric Robitaille at Decorazon

Monday, July 8th, 2019

Quintessence is referred to as the fifth sense, and is the title of Eric Robitaille’s exhibition at DECORAZON NYC.  Celebrating the idea of beauty in its purest form, Robitaille demonstrates a unique combination of vibrant realism and modern abstract.

ERIC ROBITAILLE demonstrates a unique combination of vibrant realism and modern abstract. Building each painting using a very complex construction of high quality detailing and layers, the artist allows a large space for abstract process and flow. Eric Robitaille is a self-taught contemporary artist from Montreal, Quebec. He has shown works in several exhibitions across Canada, and is currently represented by galleries in Quebec and Ontario. He also enjoys meeting art buyers personally through independent fairs.

A contemporary artist from Montreal, Quebec, Eric Robitaille has a graphic design and illustration background.
Diverse animal and plant life play a large role in his recent series, primarily to symbolize human behavior and life mechanics. His animal subjects display human characteristics and virtues, while carrying messages of “being your best self”.

Through many years of experimentation, Eric Robitaille’s style has evolved from hyper-realism to a unique mixture of abstraction and surrealism. The distinctive integration of contrasting elements, graphic text, colours and layers result in creations that are visually intriguing and dynamic, but above all communicate to perfection the story and significance of each piece.

Exhibition on View: June 27 – August 24, 2019

Radiant at ODETTA Gallery

Wednesday, May 22nd, 2019

ODETTA is pleased to present Radiant featuring artists Elizabeth Gourlay, Anne Russinof, and Audrey Stone. The exhibition runs May 23 – June 21st.

Slowly but surely, the repetitive nature of the three artists’ paintings in Radiant marries color and luminosity, resulting in a satisfying meander through subtle experimental shifts and lines of thought. As the colors employed find their voice, our eyes become alert to a disciplined form of playfulness, resulting in pleasure.

Just beginning to collect art or love works on a more intimate scale? The Flat Files at ODETTA are a gallery within a gallery, curated for each exhibition. Original works of art 2D and 3D, artists books, and limited edition prints are available. Collect works from the very best artists in NYC. Flat File Artist will feature works by Jon Cowan

ODETTA is Moving from Bushwick to Chelsea

Thursday, March 14th, 2019

ODETTA Gallery after calling Bushwick home for many years is moving their gallery to Chelsea. Currently they are have exhibitions in both locations, one serving as a bridge to the other – collectively the exhibitions are called Femmes Fatales.

Bushwick:
Ann Chernow, dubbed the Queen of Noir, is also one of owner Ellen Hackl Fagen’s mentors. She is honored to bring the artist’s newest works to ODETTA for their final exhibition in the Bushwick gallery. ODETTA is also pleased to feature Susan Bee’s newest paintings and artist’s books as the flat file feature in the Bushwick gallery. The three paintings on the main wall of the studio are focused on mythical goddess figures in the act of smiting their transgressors and saving their people. The exhibition’s run is March 15 – April 14, 2019 with an opening reception Friday, March 15, 6-8 pm. There will also be an artist’s talk, Sunday, March 31, 3:00 pm

Chelsea:
Gelah Penn will install a single, monumental work in ODETTA’s new location in the 1st Dibs Gallery in the Terminal Markets in Chelsea. Like Chernow’s, Penn’s work is significantly informed by film noir. Her site-specific piece, Ebb Tide, embodies noir-esque  light and shadow, and female anxiety and resilience through layers of fabrics and plastics, both translucent and opaque. The exhibition runs from March 15 – April 11, 2019. Meet the artist reception on Friday, March 22, 4-6 pm and Wednesday, March 27, 12-2 pm.

Their works are at once in contrast to one another, angular Bauhaus forms in wood play against organic, Baroque collages on paper. Color is a main ingredient for both artists, who are at the top of their game.

From white box to black box, come visit ODETTA in the newly opened 1st Dibs Gallery in the iconic Tunnel Building
