14C Art Fair debuts in Jersey City – An art fair with a mission to strengthen galleries, artists and organizations

The debut of a new art fair is always exciting. For the Association of Women Art Dealers this one is especially sweet. Robinson Holloway, former NYC Chapter co-chair, is the fair’s Executive Director.  Art Fair 14C is an initiative of the Jersey City Arts Council, a 501c3 non-profit – and that was created with the mission to support and strengthen the visual arts.  14C fair will welcome galleries from around the world and host an artist’s juried show.

The fair is March 15–17, 2019 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel on the Jersey City waterfront. The location is easily accessible by both public transportation from New York City and by car. There will be plentiful parking.

Three AWAD member Galleries are pleased to participate in the fair.

AWAD founder and director Susan Mumford served as a judge as did AWAD current co-chair Ivy Brown for the juried show.  AWAD  also supports the fair as a community and cultural institution partner.

AWAD NYC Galleries Celebrates Women Artists during Women’s History Month

In celebration of Women’s History Month, three member galleries are honoring women artists with exhibitions and related programs.

Van/Deb Editions continues a multi-year tradition of showcasing five women artists in their Women’s History Month Invitational. This year the featured artists include – Ellen Hackl Fagen, Daisy Craddock, Jeanne Heiftez, Elke Solomon, and Petey Brown. The show is ongoing through March 31st.

107 Bowers Gallery & ArtSpace presents “International Women”. The show features six female artists: Blond Jenny, Marit G. Bostad, Mia Gjerdrum Helgesen, Vidhi Mehrotra, Swati Rogasti and Catherine Schmitt. The participants hale from United States,Norway, India, France. Ongoing through April 27, 2019.

ODETTA presents their exhibitions Femme Fatales in two locations. In their Bushwick Gallery, Ann Chernow and Susan Bee will be featured.  There will be an opening reception on March 15th with an artists talk on March 31st. In their Chelsea Gallery, Gelah Penn will install a single, monumental work in the 1st Dibs Gallery in the Terminal Markets in Chelsea.  There will be two meet the artists receptions on March 22 and March 27th.

Ground Floor Gallery  has Millie Benson’s solo exhibition, Physica on Artsy through March 28th. For anyone interested in seeing these expressive works in person, the gallery is arranging studio visits at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

Mark Finne’s SEE SAW: Paintings Inspired from Adventures Below & Above the Surfaces of Our Oceans & Seas

“SEE SAW: Paintings Inspired from Adventures Below & Above the Surfaces of Our Oceans & Seas by Mark Finne”, is the the fourth exhibition curated by Kristin J. DeAngelis for SILVERMAN. The exhibition is a collection of works inspired by Finne’s experiences swimming, scuba diving/exploring, body-boarding, surfing and his all around life of adventure. SEE SAW features lots of blues and several new works, mostly abstract paintings, acrylic on canvas, and scuba diving -inspired.

Jersey City Art & Studio Tour – October 6th to October 7th

From October 4 to 7, 2018, hundreds of art spaces open their doors for JCAST, an incredible citywide event that celebrates Jersey City as the heart of art and culture in Jersey City. Three AWAD member galleries are participating in the 28 year art happening.

Village West Gallery is presenting Ancien Régime  a group show inspired by the idea of a pre-revolutionary world–a world of excess and privation, unrest and fear, turmoil and repression…and inequality. This show will explore society before a revolution, the forces that swell before bursting. Exhibition closes December 9th.

Panepinto Galleries- Something Blue – From symbolism, to psychology, to décor, to art – the most popular color in the world by far is the color Blue. Using various mediums, see how the artists exhibited are bringing the magic of Something Blue into their art and inspiring our lives. Exhibition closes May 19th.
