About Athol Whitmore

Athol Whitmore graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone School of Art in 2002, and is currently completing his PHD at Oxford Brookes University.

His work is an exploration of themes on childhood and memory, often provoking a nostalgic reaction in the viewer, by his use of ‘found’ domestic objects, such as furniture, toys and ceramics. In this new collection, he’s used a series of collected vintage porcelain, and painted on each an image with the feel a character from a favourite children’s book. The monochrome and gloss paint contrasts wonderfully well with the aged porcelain glazes and patterns, creating a quirky, unusual artwork that’s perfect for a smaller space at home.
